A relief of the Tomb of Alexandrovo’s discoverer - the famous archaeologist Dr. Georgi Kitov (1943-2008), was officially inaugurated today in the Museum Center "Thracian Art in the Eastern Rhodopes" near the village of Alexandrovo, Haskovo Municipality.

"This is a humble gesture of gratitude and tribute to Dr. Kitov, because his discovery is not only our history but also our future", said Mayor of Haskovo.

"Until the complete process of conservation and restoration of the original is over, another generation will grow, and if it was not for the tomb’s replica in the Museum Center "Thracian Art in the Eastern Rhodopes", today nobody would have been able to touch the Tomb of Alexandrovo", archaeologist Diana Dimitrova said at the opening of the relief of her late husband, Dr Georgi Kitov. She attended the ceremony along with their daughter Irina. "I've seen in Greece commemorative plaques of archaeologists and I asked myself whether this is possible in Bulgaria. This is already happening today in Alexandrovo!" Dimitrova said with eyes full of tears.

At the suggestion of Mayor, Haskovo’s City Council decided to name a street in the city after the late archaeologist.

The bronze bas-relief of Dr. Kitov is the work of sculptor Miho Mihov from Haskovo.
